Guide - Ros Consoli
Ros Consoli has been associated with Explore the Outback
camel safaris since 2005 when she joined the annual wild camel training
forum. We all love Ros, everyone loves Ros! She has a "flying-high"
attitude to life which is infectious and incredibly welcome around
the camp. Nothing is too hard for Ros and her professional committment
is exceptional.
Ros is totally at home in the social complexity of a bush camp
with its predictable challenges for our many clients. Any initial
apprehensions are immediately dispelled after a few minutes with
Ros. She has a long history as a professional 4WD tour guide with
a great deal of experience in the wilds of the Northern Territory
and her many contributions to Explore the Outback are greatly
valued.
Ros is a fully qualified Environmental Scientist and her latest
work has set her on a road of exciting research relevent to an emergent
Australian camel industry and its implications for remote indigenous
communities sitting on veritable "gold mines" of resource
in the form of hundreds of thousands of wild camels. Now let's get
one thing straight here; wild camels are threatening the entire
ecology and biodiversity of the central Australian desert wilderness
areas and their control via a reduction in numbers is absolutely
essential. Camels are a magnificent animal, a gift to any arid area,
and you will see this respect for the camel evident in all of our
staff, but first and foremost we are committed conservationists
and the integrity of the arid zone ecology is sacrosanct. Ros Consoli
and Explore the Outback will have key roles to play in this
issue in forthcoming years.
Ros is also co-partner in the trans-Australia camel expedition
scheduled to cross Australia from the NW to the SE in 2008/09 in
support of the Children
First Foundation. With Explore the Outback Ros has learnt
the key elements of remote expeditioning and how to manage a team
of camels in an unsupported environment. She has also learnt the
importance of routine for camel expeditioning and the myriad of
dos and don'ts to minimise problems when operating in an environment
so heavily dependent on good camel management and welfare.
Ros is an exceptional guide and a valuable addition to Explore
the Outback.
Now that's great camel trekking.
