Parentie
Varanus giganteus
Perenties are the largest Australian lizards and if you're lucky
enough to sight one you are in for a real treat.
Perenties are typically a solitary hunter and feed opportunistically
on just about anything they can find, kill and rip apart. They are
ferocious hunters but their outward appearance is one of cautious
suspicion and they only run away if they are swiftly confronted.
We often come across Perenties in stony habitat country but we
also see them on creek banks and high escarpments throughout the
district.
