Orange Chat
Epthianura aurifrons
A sighting of the Orange Chat is often a pleasing visual respite
when one treks through its usual habitat of either bluebush plains,
samphire flats or stony gibber plains. The female is nothing to write
home about but the male in full breeding colours is a very striking
bird (shown on right).
Orange Chats are usually seen in pairs or small groups of up to
15 birds or more. They have been recorded locally in flocks of up
to 400 but this is an exception rather than a rule.
