Near Sandy Spring
Desert springs
This photo shows the camel team as it approaches a tiny natural
spring called the Sandy Spring.
The sun-baked stones you see here suggest nothing but this precious
natural spring provides a tiny yet unfailing trickle throughout
the hottest days of summer.
In many respects deserts are desolate, but that is only part of
the story. This desert is teeming with hidden life and springs such
as Sandy exist as precious ecological sanctuaries for this life.
You can't see the animals if you drive (everything runs away
from you) and you can't see them if you walk (that'd be too
crazy!) but from the back of a camel you'll see it all - safely.
Now that's great camel trekking.
