Rare black dingo
Dingo - Canis lupus dingo
The native Australian dog known as the dingo is common in the outback
(north of the dog proof fence) and is found in all habitats.
Here you see a photo of a rare black dingo taken only 30km west
of William Creek in 1989.
Dingos are typically light brown in colour but this black variation
does occur naturally. Note the white paws on this dog - they are
a feature of the rare black dingo.
The dingo is able to adapt to a broad cross-section of prey sizes
and, when hunting in packs, they are able to pull down full grown
kangaroos and emus.
