Getting to us

We are currently operating in the Lake Eyre Basin in and around William Creek and the Denison Range. We are 12 hours drive north of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia and a little over 2 hours drive east of Coober Pedy, the opal gemstone capital of the world.

There are a number of ways to get to us:

1. You drive to trekking base camp

All roads are suitable for two wheel drive vehicles (with care and with vehicle clearance), so driving yourself is an easy option. Coober Pedy exists on the main bitumen "Stuart Highway" running north-south across Australia. Our trekking base camp is 2-3 hours easy drive time from Coober Pedy (see map).

2. Use our 4WD transit service

If you're not driving yourself, simply make your way to Coober Pedy via air (ex Adelaide or Alice Springs), bus or rail, and we'll organise your 4WD transit to our trekking base camp and return (add $165/head). We'll provide specific details with your booking confirmation. There is nothing to it.

In brief (departing Thursdays, 5 days):

Wednesday - you should arrive Coober Pedy
Thursday - 8.45am depart Coober Pedy to trekking base camp via transit vehicle, arrive late afternoon, depart with camels next day.
Friday AM to Monday noon - "Explore the Outback camel safari"
Monday (noon) - return Coober Pedy via transit vehicle

In brief (departing Mondays, 4 days):

Sunday - you should arrive Coober Pedy
Monday - 8.45am depart Coober Pedy to trekking base camp via transit vehicle, depart with camels after lunch
Monday noon to Thursday PM - "Explore the Outback camel safari"
Thursday (noon) - return Coober Pedy via transit vehicle

3. Or...

Alternatively have a look at the Wayward Bus travel option below. This option can bring you to Coober Pedy via a spectacular tour of Australia's most famous outback icon, Ayers Rock (Uluru).
You can also travel to Coober Pedy from Alice Springs on a Tuesday via Heading Bush.
Groovy Grape can get you to Coober Pedy from Alice on a Saturday or a Wednesday, or to Coober Pedy from Adelaide on a Saturday.

So, contact us to make a booking and before you know it you'll be sitting atop a camel and riding off into the distance.
